Recently, we've noticed that many new customers, due to a lack of understanding of how Web3 wallets work, have made mistakes under the guidance of others, resulting in the exposure of their seed phrase or private keys and subsequent loss of assets. Such cases are common among beginners, especially when they first use wallets or try futures trade. Due to insufficient knowledge and lack of fraud awareness, they are lured by criminals under the guise of "helping you make money," "futures arbitrage," or "teaching operations," which ultimately leads to their wallets being stolen.

Common scam tactics and prevention methods

Scam 1: Fake seed phrase scam

Scammer pitch: “There’s an airdrop in this seed phrase, just import it to claim!”; “I’m customer support agent, I’ll help you recover your wallet, please provide your seed phrase.”

How to prevent it?

  1. You must create your own wallet and never use a seed phrase or private key provided by others.

  2. private keys/seed phrases equal wallet control. Never share, screenshot, or upload them to the cloud.

Scheme 2: Fake futures authorization scam

Scammer script: “Click this link to authorize so you can withdraw/claim your reward!”; “Contract interaction failed? Try signing again!”

How to prevent it?

  1. Be cautious when signing authorizations. Always verify the authenticity of the platform before connecting your wallet or signing.

  2. Check the contract address (such as on Etherscan) before granting authorization, and cancel unnecessary permissions.

Scheme Three: Fake Teacher/Friend Scam

Scammer pitch: “I'm a crypto expert, I'll help you arbitrage and guarantee profits!”; “Download this ‘wallet plugin’, it's safer!”

How to prevent it?

  1. Don't believe in 'guaranteed profit' claims; any request for your private key is a scam.

  2. Only use the official wallet, and never install unknown plugins to avoid asset theft!

Kind reminder

  • If your private key has been compromised, immediately transfer your assets to a new wallet.

  • If you encounter suspicious links or requests, contact official channels to verify immediately.

  • Security is no small matter—stay vigilant and protect your assets!
